Gamma Pi Member Part of Recent Hometown Public Memorial Day Observance
If you travel to the hometown of Gamma PI Chapter Bro. Warren Johnson, Jr., you would be visiting a place called Blackstone. The small town of about 3,600 people is located about 35 miles southwest of Petersburg and 50 miles south of Richmond. And once you get to Blackstone, you will find Bro. Johnson out in the streets, though not literally. That is because Bro. Johnson's likeness is flying above the streets on a special veterans salute banner as one of a number of hometown veterans in Blackstone who were honored recently on Memoria Day. Bro. Johnson is a retired U.S Air Force veteran. The banner program is sponsored by the Town of Blackstone and is now in its third year. Approximately 70 banners have been raised in the program. Hometown Heroes banners are installed each week leading up to Memorial Day and removed shortly after Veterans Day. Banners include the name, photo, and branch of service of each honored service member.
