Kentland Youths Visit King and Lincoln Memorials, Thanks to Gamma Pi Brothers
As residents of the National Capitol Region, we take for granted the presence of the many monuments, museums and sights that millions from all across the globe come to Washington, D.C. just to see. Living here in the shadows of these artifacts does not always mean you get to visit them. Gamma Pi's Que Kidz Dayz program helped a number of disadvantaged youth from the Kentland community experience Washington, D.C. just like kids from other communities when they escorted the youth on a daylong field trip to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, July 18. In the photo at left, the youth and Gamma Pi Brothers are standing in the very spot at the Lincoln Memorial where Dr. King delivered his historic "I Have a Dream" speech on August 28, 1963. The photo on the right depicts the youth and Brothers standing at the King Memorial. Eight youths participated in the trip. Que Kidz Dayz is a Gamma Pi initiative that brings youth from the Kentland Community together once a month on Saturdays for personal and social enrichment activities -- such as field trips -- that they would not normally get to experience because of their challenged socio-economic status.
