Chapter Members Give Youth Real-Life Lessons on Veterans Day Holiday
Members of Gamma Pi chapter brought home the meaning of Veterans Day to a group of eager and curious youngsters from the underserved Kentland Community during a special forum held on Saturday, November 14, at the Kentland Comnmunity Center in Prince George's County. The town hall-style forum was held as part of the chapter's popular QueKidzDayz youth enrichment program held monthly at the center. The educational event featured chapter members who served in the Armed Forces talking about their experiences and answering questions from the youth about military service. Brothers also used the occasion to instruct the youth on how to pose intelligent questions in a pubic setting and on developing public speaking. Participating on the panel were Brothers Col. (ret.) James Wyatt (standing), and left to right: Marc Ellington. Clinton Green, Terry Rogers, Greg Crawley and Greg Gaines. Each veteran gave a synopsis of their military career and made a presentation using military artifacts for a "show and tell" segment of the program. It was a unique and interesting way for the kids to learn about the meaning of the Veterans Day holiday and to see what it means to serve one's country. Thanks to Brothers Orlando McDowell and Darryl Thompson for organizing the program. (Information contributed by Bro. Mabili Akinyele)
