Brother Thomas Boone, a Prince George's police sergeant, appears on a  national panel regarding body cameras

Gamma Pi Member On the Front Lines of Police-Community Discussions

In recent months since the Ferguson, Missouri police shooting case, police-community relations have been at the top of the agenda in many communities. At the center of those discussions have been the so-called body cameras that law enforcement observers are considering for widespread use across the country to record police-citizen interactions. One of Gamma Pi’s own is involved in that national debate, all the way up to the The White House. Brother Thomas Boone, promoted to sergeant last year in the Prince George’s County Police Department, offered his perspectives on police body cameras as the member of a special expert panel that  appeared at The White House on Friday, February 27. The panel was sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA).  BJA is planning to develop a web-based toolkit that will serve as a one-stop clearinghouse of information and resources to help guide and create a model policy for law enforcement agencies implementing body-worn camera programs. Brother Boone was on a panel that included privacy and victim advocates who areal contributing content to the toolkit to broaden input and ensure transparency. Click here to congratulate Bro. Boone via e-mail.
