For Local Homeless Men, Omega Men Bring an NFL Sunday to Life

On an NFL Sunday, many men are parked in their "man cave" easy chairs in front of their favorite flat screen TV watching one or two games --sometimes three -- as the NFL season unfolds like a good drama. Often, the game becomes an event with family, friends and neighbors dropping by to watch. But for men who have nowhere to call home -- let alone a "man cave" -- NFL Sunday is not about enjoying pro football, but about finding a place to shelter from the cold and the heat. Brothers from Gamma Pi and Alpha Omega chapters joined forces on Sunday, October 23, to help homeless men in the area in a creative way. The Brothers from these combined chapters "hosted" homeless men at a Washington, D.C. shelter for an NFL Sunday. In the photos above, Brothers prepare to serve the food (left) and introduce themselves to the shelter residents (right). The Brothers fed the men and joined them for the NFL games. About 70 men came through the facility for the food and fellowship. It was the highlight of their week. It was also a very rewarding experience for Brothers, serving as a humble reminder of the ongoing needs of homeless men who are an often-forgotten segment of the disadvantaged population.
