Gamma Pi Member's School Racks Up National Martial Arts Awards
Don't start any trouble with Bro Marlin Godfrey. If he cannot take you on himself, he has a whole school of martial arts experts to serve as his back up. Bro. Godfrey's school -- Kuk Sool Won of Capitol Heights, Md. -- brought home some significant honors at the recent WKSA (World Kuk Sool Association) Great Lakes Championship competition. Bro. Godfrey led a trip that included 70 students from the DMV riding 14 hours on a bus to Sault Set Marie, MI, where they competed against 15 other schools from Quebec and Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, New York and Maryland. Bro. Godfrey's school defended the flag successfully, having first won the flag at the 2012 WKSA Great Lakes Tournament in Cleveland and in 2013 in Sault Ste Marie. "We had to win the flag one more time for it to be ours forever," said Bro. Godfrey. There were more than 250 competitors in the event. Bro. Godfrey's school included students from 5 year old White and Yellow belts to age 50+ Red and Black Belts. His students swept 1st through 4th place in some events and they dominated others with 1st place finishes. Out of seven Black Belt Grand Champion divisions, Bro. Godfrey's school won four. "We won the Top School honors by a whopping 300 + points and completely set the stage for the event from the tournament itself to the Masters demonstration where I performed with over 20 of my higher ranking students," Brother Godfrey added. Bro. Godfrey was recently awarded 5th Degree Black Belt Master Instructor status as a member of the 2015 Master Instructor class that held training in Houston in March
