Talent Hunt: Sights and Sounds of Young Prodigies

So much of today's news reports about youth revolve around crime and violence. It seems that there are so many distractions and temptations that can easily push our young people off track. But Gamma Pi is on to some good news about our youth and it comes every year in the form of the chapter's Talent Hunt, a mandated program of Omega Psi Phi. A full house from the community comes out every year for this popular program held at a local high school.

Gamma Pi's Talent Hunt is open to high school students throughout Prince George's County. The talent displayed each year is awe-inspiring. Young prodigies massage the melodic strings of the violin, tickle the piano keyboards, perform complex dance routines, act out dramatic scenes that take your breath away and sing with gusto and style like famous recording artists. Quite often, Gamma Pi reminds the community that they should come see these "Stars of Tomorrow" while their performances are free!

The Talent Hunt is traditionally held in March. Students only need to apply. Applications are usually made available early in the winter. Some of the students display such outstanding skills and talent that it is hard to select winners, but indeed, winners are selected and sent onto the next round where they compete for regional and national prizes with contestants sponsored by other chapters.
